ONLINE JOURNAL

These journal entries track our progress as we undertake our adventure of restoring this very old home. The main reason for keeping this journal on the web is that we have found that there are very few resources (books or websites) that follow all of the trials and tribulations of restoring an old home...from start to finish.

It's so great to have our Web friends out there as a support group. You guys have kept me laughing for the last three days with your E-mails and posts to the Forum.

I was surprised to be able to very quickly arrange a "phone meeting" with the county assessor. Didn't have to dress up or anything. I calmly stated my case (without any high pitched screaming) and he has asked me to send him our recent appraisals, etc. Based on the gist of our conversation, I am expecting the reassessment to drop by about 40%. That's still a hefty increase...but much more in line. So my packet is ready to drop in the mail to him tomorrow and then we should get a response in about 3 weeks. We shall see! -- Bill

Tiny jobs today. I did a little bit of clearing by the creek and then moved a small Magnolia that we found in our woods out into the new lot. It's only about 4 feet tall now, but we look forward to sipping mint julips in its shade this summer. (OK, maybe not.) -- Bill

Have a comment or suggestion? Post it to our new Forum!
Or e-mail Bill or Gay
(We both get so much junk E-mail that sometimes we unwittingly miss real E-mails,
so posting to the Forum is really the best bet. Thanks!)
