Enon Hall

ONLINE JOURNAL

These journal entries track our progress as we undertake our adventure of restoring this very old home. The main reason for keeping this journal on the web is that we have found that there are very few resources (books or websites) that follow all of the trials and tribulations of restoring an old home...from start to finish.

We're alive and well, but snow, work, and other "non-Enon Hall" projects (yes, there is such a thing) have been keeping us busy. Stay tuned though. We hope to really tackle the law office during the winter doldrums.

Posted some new information about William Downing and some clues about the location of the original Hathaway property from the 1666 deed. -- BIll

We made a road trip this weekend to attend the Greater Philadelphia Historic Home Show. The show turned out to be fairly small so we had seen all we could see (three times) in about two hours on Friday night. The adjoining Designer Craftsman Show was much larger and very nice, but not really what we were interested in. So that left the rest of our weekend free to explore Philly and Valley Forge. Philly has an amazing inventory of 18th century buildings in the historic district...so we actually picked up more ideas and information there than we did at the home show.

William was thrilled to tour Independence Hall (under very tight security these days), as well as Washington's headquarters at Valley Forge. He is very much into the Revolutionary War and Colonial times in general. When they finally get to study these periods in school, I'm afraid he'll be very bored.

OK...confession time: On December 30th Gay and I gutted our master bathroom in our other home. Just couldn't put up with the nasty tile color anymore, so after five years of complaining about it we took action. Took the room down to studs to start over, including removing the cast iron tub. We hope to be done with this project this coming weekend so that we can direct our attention back to projects at Enon Hall. So for everybody who's sent me emails...no we haven't been goofing off! :) -- BIll
